The Theory Test

The Theory Test

You must pass the Theory Test before you can take the Practical Driving Test.

The Theory Test is computer based with 50 multiple choice questions which you have to complete within 57 minutes.

To pass the test you must get at least 43 correct out of 50.

The Driving Theory Test is taken at the local Driving Standards Agency Theory Test Centre , you will need to take both parts of your photo card licence with you. If you have an old-style paper licence, you must take your signed driving licence and valid passport.

After registration at the reception desk you will be taken to a booth containing a computer loaded with the theory test.

If you have any special needs the n you need to inform the DSA when booking your test

 

The questions are all  multiple choice. You will be asked a questions and will be give n a number of possible answers . Most will require one option to be selected from a choice of four, some will ask for two, three or four correct options to be selected from a range of possibilities.

 

Be certain to read the questions very carefully and all the way through before answering . Sometimes  there will be at least one response that is obviously not correct and so you can narrow the answers down. If you have no idea what the correct answer is,  have a guess! If you are not sure of the answer flag it  return to the question at the end of the test.

 

At the end of the questions you will be given the opportunity to go back to the questions that you have flagged  or review the whole test if you wish.  

 

The pass mark is 43 out of 50

 

Remember read all the possible answers before answering and take your time

Note: You will have to pass both the Theory and the Hazard Perception Tests

before you can book your Practical Test.

Hazard Perception Test (HPT)

Part 2 - Hazard Perception Test
The second part of the theory is the hazard perception test, this consists of 14 video clips containing 15 developing hazards. Thirteen of the clips contain 1 developing hazard and one clip contains 2.
To pass this part of the test you must score 44 out of a possible 75.
