The first thing that you need before starting to drive is a provisional driving licence, if you you do not have one then you need to apply to the DVLA.
You can obtain a provisional driving licence form from the post office or by contacting the DVLA on 0870 240 0009
You can now get your driving licence on line .
You can apply for you provisional licence up to three months before you seventeenth birthday (however it would not start until your birthday)
